Hi there! My name is Xinjie Dong.
I was born and raised in China. I came to Vancouver, Canada when I was 18 years old.
I am currently pursuing my BDes (Interaction Design) at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver. My focus is on UX design, because as a designer, it is important to be connected with users and their situations. Building empathy, and understanding users' demands, is particularly important for vulnerable and underprivileged sections of our society. My goal is to understand diverse social groups both human and non-human and create accessible and inclusive services and experiences for them. Exploration, collaboration, and learning from users are my framework for success.
I have co-designed with guide dog teams and Dr. Sabrina Hauser in my third year. I am currently devoted my exploration to accessibility design especially for visually impaired groups, and I will continue researching this field and staying close to people with vision impairments for my MDes.

我是一个地地道道的北方女孩，山西阳泉是我出生和成长的家乡。那里盛产陈酿老陈醋，香醇汾酒，晶莹剔透的大红枣，五花八门的面点，还有。。。
山西淳朴的文化也促使我拥有一颗善解人意的心。从小，我就很喜欢聆听他人，帮助身边的朋友解答疑惑，和学习他们身上的迷人优点，因为这样，在普通的生活中保持着普通人之间的单纯互动，会使我简单，快乐，无忧无虑。所以我留在山西的童年是非常纯粹的，每天的生活也是十分慵懒和漫无目的。那时的我，从未意识到生活有时应该有的使命感，更没有去想过我的理想，和我生活的目的。
后来啊，在我十八岁的时候，在父母的计划下，就被他们送到了国外上大学。原以为这只是一条简单的 “开阔视野” 的学习之旅，没想到这是一条让我不断地寻找自我，认知自我，和了解自我的时光之旅。我开始摆脱慵懒，和 “抛弃” 对浑浑噩噩生活以及舒适地带的依赖。但对于与人之间单纯的交流互动，是属于我的唯一不变之一。所以现在，这是我，一名交互和服务设计师，一名围绕着用户和用户体验为中心的设计师。再后来我想，需要得到关注的用户也不单单是 “人类” 而已吧，用户也包含着我们正在消费，同时也在 “消费” 我们的生态，生物，时间，和。。。
如果有人问我：“你如何定义你的自我成长？” 我会说：“我不在意现在的我是否是众人眼中拥有完美人格的人，我在意的是现在的我和十年前的我是否是两个不同的人，是否有不断地建立更确切的目标。因为这样，便没有枉费流逝的时间去自我成长。这个过程是可叠加性的，所以，我很期待，对自己下一个十年的 “评价” 。🥰
