This was a group project to design a service for the VPL. My teammates were Alexandra Livsey, Brandon Wang, Elaine Wang, Tony Shi, and myself, Xinjie (Vera) Dong. After exploring all the issues that we found during our research at VPL, we decided to create a proactive design that engages the community of the VPL.
The first artefact we designed for this outdoor service was a bookcase. We took care to lay out the books so that they would be easier to grab. This service would happen at diverse parks that are close to neighborhoods.

The second artefact was a poster -- posted outdoors around the VPL and nearby neighborhoods - for promoting Pop-Up Library outdoor services and attracting users.
The poster was designed to be bright and colourful and colours contrast the colours fond in nature so that the poster is eye-catching.
The third artefact was a lanyard design for volunteers and staff of the Pop-Up services. On the front design is the role of volunteers and librarian and on the back is a cute logo design for the Pop-Up Library.

The fourth artefact was a rest area for people to read books. It included large towels and blankets, pillows, sunscreen, sunglasses, camping chairs, and outdoor umbrellas.
The final artefact was an app design to be used on an iPad. This “check-out” app would allow visitors to check out any books at the Pop-Up Library.
This interaction helps encourage community building and make the interaction more personalized.
